CZ2251/LSM2104: Essential Bioinformatics and Biocomputing
CZ2251 Synopsis
Prerequisite: LSM1101
This module provides an introduction to biological databases and use of bioinformatics software,
including sequence comparison algorithms and tools (translation and pattern searching), 3D
biomolecular structure and modeling., and bioinformatics theory, tools and techniques. Examples
of biological databases are: OMIM, GenBank, Swissprot, PDB, CATHS, SCOP. Examples of
bioinformatics software are Blast, FastA, GCG, and Phylip.
LSM2104 Synopsis
Prerequisite: A pass or advanced placement in LSM1101
Introduction to biological databases and bioinformatics software. Sequence comparison algorithms
and tools. Biomolecular 3D structure and modeling. Students will be introduced to bioinformatics
theory, tools, and techniques
